What are Intramural Sports?

Intramural Sports provide an opportunity for Campus Recreation members to participate in various sports at a competitive or recreational level. We offer leagues and single-day events to allow sports to fit into your schedule in whatever way works best for you. Intramural Sports are a great way to get involved in the Boise State community, make friendships, and have fun.

What is the difference between the blue and orange leagues?

We offer both blue and orange leagues to help all participants find their best option for playing Intramural Sports. The blue league is our competitive league and is recommended for more experienced athletes. Orange leagues are considered recreational leagues and are designed for participants who want to try something new, or continue playing in a more relaxed environment.

Can I still play if I don't have a team?

Absolutely! If you do not have a team to play with, you can register as a free agent. We do not place free agents on teams, but we can help! Teams who know they need additional players are encouraged to check “Looking for Free Agents” while completing their registration process. For more information, please visit our Free Agent page.

Do intramural teams practice?

You can play Intramural Sports without practicing...in fact, most people do! There are a few teams who do practice to improve their chances at getting the Intramural Sports champ shirt!

What do teams do if they have to forfeit?

If a team know's they will not have enough players to make it to their game, they can fill out a DEFAULT FORM to notify intramural staff. This form must be completed by 3pm the day of the game or 3pm the Friday prior to any weekend games to give staff proper notification. As a result of the default, the defaulting team will receive a loss for the game and a 3 sportsmanship rating. They however, will not have to pay the $20 forfeit fee.

If a team does not notify staff of the forfeit and fails to show up to their scheduled game, the team captain will be charged with a $20 forfeit fee and not be allowed to particpate in future events until it is paid. The team will recieve a 0 sportsmanship and a loss for the game.

In order to minimize forfeits, the Intramural Sprots Program has implemented a nomad policy. If a team is below the minimum number of players required to play a game, they may pick up a player from another team to avoid a forfeit. A team may pick up as many players as they need to start and play (example: if a basketbal lteam only has two players, they can pick up 3 nomads to play 5 on 5).

For any further questions regarding forfeits, please email intramurals@boisestate.edu

What are the requirements for playoff eligibility?

In order to be playoff eligible, teams must have an overall average sportsmanship rating of 3.0. The Intramural Sports Program takes pride in promoting a fun and competitive atmosphere for our participants, therefore it is a requirement that teams maintain good sportsmanship throughout the season. If teams have poor sportmanship in the playoffs, the Intramural Sports Program can exercise the option to disqualify any team from the bracket that we deem to have excessive unsportmanlike behavior.
