What sports do you offer?
|
For the upcoming year, we expect to offer the following league sport opportunities:
- Fall: Flag Football, Kickball, Outdoor Soccer, 4v4 Volleyball, and 4v4 Basketball.
- Spring: 5v5 Basketball, Indoor Soccer, Arena Football, and 6v6 Volleyball.
In addition to league sports, we have several single-day events and competitions scattered throughout the year. Take a look at the schedule of events on IM Leagues to see what else we have to offer!

Do intramural sports cost money to play?
|
Nope! All intramural sports are free to participate in for all students, faculty, and staff. If a team officially forfeits a scheduled league game, a forfeit fine is assessed to the team, but there are no up-front costs for participating in intramural sports.

How do you know when to schedule my team? We're not available certain nights.
|
For most leagues, we have approximately 20-25 time slots identified where games can be scheduled. During the registration process, we offer captains the opportunity to mark off which ones work and which ones don't. You can even mark off specific days when you can't play if you happen to be leaving for the weekend or have a big test coming up that you need to study for.
After registration is complete, captains retain the ability to manage these times from week to week. Typically we make our weekly game schedules on Thursday mornings, so we require that your team availability is up to date by Wednesday night each week during the regular season. Don't worry - we email captains reminders each week!
We will always avoid scheduling a game for you during a time marked unavailable during the regular season. If you qualify for playoffs, we may not be able to accommodate your availability if there's a matchup that needs to be played where we can't find a time that works for both teams. If this happens, your team would not be penalized, so long as you let us know in advance of the game.

Can I reschedule my game?
|
No, unfortunately, but that doesn't mean you don't have any options!
If your team has a game that you are unable to attend, you can either cancel the game, find another team to replace your team, or trade games with another team on the schedules. Specifics related to each of these options will be discussed during each league's organizational meeting, but you can also find full details in the Participant's Handbook. Captains can find links to all of the necessary forms on the Game Management Tools page on our website.
Whatever you decide to do, just don't forfeit! Forfeit fines range between $15 and $35 depending on the sport and are only assessed if your team is given a forfeit.

Is there a limit to the number of events I can play in?
|
Absolutely NOT! Play in one, play in all of them - we don't mind! However, keep in mind that depending on you/your team's availability, you may have games in different leagues/events scheduled at the same time. Pay attention to your availability, and remember that captains can always adjust and control the times that each team is able to play!

What do I need to bring to my game?
|
All intramural sports participants are required to complete a brief check-in form prior to participating in any activity. Intramural staff will present a QR code that needs to be scanned to access the form, so bring your phone with you! If requested, participants may also be expected to present their SUNY Cortland ID card, so it's wise to bring your ID, too!
There are also uniform requirements for each league. Participants on the same team are also required to wear shirts that meet the following requirements:
- Shirts must be the same or similar in color
- Must have a number on the front AND back. Numbers must be easily identifiable and clearly visible. Numbers can be drawn, painted, or printed onto a shirt, but they may NOT be taped on.
- Each participant must wear a unique number - no duplicates!
Full details can be found in the Participant's Handbook.

I want to play but I don't have a team. Is there a way I can play without a team?
|
You do not need to have a team to play! If you have a league that you want to play in but don't have anyone else to play with, you have a few options as a free agent.
- You can register yourself as a free agent. Other captains can then find and add you from the free agent list. Some teams may even leave their teams open for free agents to join without needing permission from anyone. Be sure to register yourself as a free agent for each event that you want to play. For example, registering as a free agent for flag football doesn't mean you'll also be a free agent for soccer.
- Create your own team and leave it open for others to join. If you don't want to leave it to chance that you'll be picked up by an existing team, this is a great option for you. Even if you don't have teammates, you can still create a team and either wait for others to join, or invite free agents off the list to join.
